Starting October 15, YouTube Shorts will allow creators to make videos up to 3 minutes long, addressing one of the platform’s most requested features. This update applies to all vertical or square videos created after the update, while previously uploaded content remains unaffected.
Along with this change, YouTube is also introducing new templates for Shorts. By tapping “Remix” on a Short and selecting “Use this template,” users can create content more easily. Soon, creators will also be able to remix clips from their favorite YouTube videos, combining multiple clips across the platform.
Additionally, YouTube is launching a Shorts Trends page on mobile, giving users insight into popular content. A new feature will also allow users to preview comment trends directly in the Shorts feed.
For those less fond of Shorts, YouTube is rolling out an option to show fewer Shorts by tapping the three dots in the upper right of the Shorts grid on the Home feed, though this is only a temporary setting.
