The Tecno Phantom Ultimate G Fold is the brand’s latest futuristic concept, revealed just days before Samsung’s major foldable announcement at Unpacked 2025. Tecno has built a reputation for bold concept phones, and this time it’s teasing something even more ambitious—a tri-fold smartphone with a brand-new design approach. While Samsung may soon debut its own Galaxy G Fold, Tecno is again taking the stage with hardware that excites but isn’t yet ready for mass production.
Tecno confirmed the Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept would officially debut in mid-July. This announcement likely positions it to trail Samsung’s July 9 event, where the tech giant is expected to reveal both the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and possibly its first tri-fold commercial device. Tecno’s move feels timed to make waves, leveraging the moment to draw attention from fans and the tech community alike. These photos show that the Tecno Phantom Ultimate G Fold adopts a G-shaped hinge design that folds inward in a stacked layout. This is a significant evolution from Tecno’s earlier tri-fold prototype. Unlike the previous iteration, which arrived around the time of Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate announcement, this version opts for a more practical form. The new hinge design provides better protection to the display, folding the fragile panel inward while leaving the exterior shell more durable, similar to Samsung’s current design philosophy.
Though the hinge mirrors expectations for Samsung’s rumored Galaxy G Fold, Tecno’s new device borrows several design cues from Google. Its matte silver frame and white rear panel closely resemble the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The horizontal camera bar also appears directly inspired by the Pixel 9 Pro’s layout. It’s a curious blend of hardware influences, but one that may appeal to foldable fans craving innovation.
The prototype doesn’t quite match the slimness of newer foldables. With each folded segment appearing individually slim, the overall build still looks bulky once fully folded. Industry observers estimate the folded thickness to be around 13mm, with each of the three layers contributing over 4mm to the chassis. Compared to the new Galaxy Z Fold 7, which boasts an 8.9mm profile, Tecno’s design still feels a generation behind in compactness.
Although Tecno’s concept draws attention with its form factor, it serves more as a proof of concept than a consumer-ready product. At present, Huawei is the only brand to release a commercial tri-fold phone. Samsung appears ready to follow, possibly with a launch later this year.
