The Huawei MateBook 14 2024 marks the series’ entry into the OLED space, bringing a significant upgrade over the 2023 version. One of the standout improvements is the new 450-nit OLED display, replacing the 300-nit IPS LCD. It’s also the first MateBook to support a stylus.
This model features the faster and more efficient Core 7 Ultra 155H processor, an upgrade from last year’s i7-1360P. Additionally, Huawei has managed to make the laptop lighter than its predecessor.
Design and Build Quality The MateBook 14 2024 maintains a minimalist design, with our unit featuring the Green color option, adding some flair in a market filled with silver and grey laptops. The laptop’s metal body adds a premium feel, and at 1.31kg and 14.5mm thick, it’s both lightweight and thin.
Opening the laptop reveals an OLED display with decent-sized black bezels and a matching green deck. The black keyboard and green wallpaper complete the sleek look. While there are no speaker grilles on the top of the deck, the speakers are located on the bottom, and the webcam is in the traditional top bezel location.
Display, Keyboard, Camera, and Speakers The OLED display is the main attraction of the MateBook 14 2024. Compared to the previous model’s 300-nit IPS LCD, this OLED panel offers a substantial improvement with a 2880x1920px resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. While it’s not as bright or high-resolution as the MateBook X Pro 2024’s display, it offers 100% sRGB, DCI-P3, and 95% Adobe RGB coverage, making it a great option for content creators.
The keyboard provides a comfortable typing experience with 1.5mm key travel, while the trackpad is functional but somewhat underwhelming with its plastic surface. The fingerprint scanner, integrated into the power button, supports quick login, but the lack of a Windows Hello face login is a downside.
The speakers deliver strong audio with surprising bass, making it a solid choice for media consumption.
Performance and Battery Life The MateBook 14 2024 comes with either the Intel Core Ultra 5 125H or Core Ultra 7 155H processor, along with 16GB of RAM and storage options of 512GB or 1TB. The Core Ultra 7 155H, which powers our review unit, handles demanding tasks well and outperforms its rivals in stress tests. Graphics are powered by the 8-core Arc GPU, making this laptop capable of light-to-moderate gaming and creative work.
Battery life is impressive, with the MateBook managing 10 hours of video playback and over 9 hours of browsing on a 70Wh battery.
Conclusion The Huawei MateBook 14 2024 offers excellent value for its price, with features like a sharp OLED display, solid battery life, and strong performance from Intel’s Core Ultra 7 155H processor. However, the absence of Thunderbolt 4 and the plastic trackpad are minor letdowns. While Intel’s newer Lunar Lake chips may offer better battery efficiency, the MateBook 14 2024 remains a great option for everyday use, especially considering its competitive price point.
