Xiaomi’s 14T Series offers two compelling choices: the standard Xiaomi 14T and the more premium Xiaomi 14T Pro. While they share many similarities, the differences in performance, build, and price create a dilemma for buyers deciding which to choose. With a price gap of €150-200, understanding these differences is key to making an informed choice. Here’s a breakdown to help you decide between the two.

Design and Build

  • Xiaomi 14T: Plastic frame, slightly lighter at 193g, thinner (7.8mm).
  • Xiaomi 14T Pro: Aluminum frame, heavier at 209g, thicker (8.4mm).

The 14T Pro feels sturdier due to its aluminum frame, while the 14T offers a slightly lighter build. Both devices feature a matte glass-like finish, making them premium to the touch, but the Pro’s extra weight gives it a more solid feel.

Display

Both devices feature identical 6.67-inch AMOLED displays with 144Hz refresh rates and HDR10+ support. With a brightness range of 1,200-1,300 nits, both provide great outdoor visibility and vivid colors, so there’s no significant advantage in the display department.

Battery Life and Charging

  • Xiaomi 14T: 5,000mAh battery, 67W wired charging.
  • Xiaomi 14T Pro: 5,000mAh battery, 120W wired charging, 50W wireless charging.

The 14T Pro pulls ahead in terms of both battery endurance and charging speed. It lasts slightly longer than the 14T in most usage scenarios and charges from 0 to 100% in just 23 minutes with its 120W charger, compared to 49 minutes for the 14T. Additionally, the Pro supports 50W wireless charging, while the 14T has no wireless charging option.

Performance

  • Xiaomi 14T: MediaTek Dimensity 8300 Ultra chipset.
  • Xiaomi 14T Pro: MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ chipset.

The Pro version offers a massive leap in performance. The Dimensity 9300+ chip delivers 60% better overall performance compared to the 14T’s 8300 Ultra, making the Pro model significantly faster in benchmarks and better for gaming, multitasking, and heavy apps.

Camera Comparison

  • Xiaomi 14T: 50MP f/1.7 main camera (1/1.56″ sensor), 50MP 2x zoom, 12MP ultrawide, 32MP selfie.
  • Xiaomi 14T Pro: 50MP f/1.6 main camera (1/1.31″ sensor), 50MP 2.6x zoom, 12MP ultrawide, 32MP selfie.

Both phones offer impressive cameras, but the 14T Pro edges ahead with slightly better sensors, especially with its 2.6x zoom, which produces sharper images and better low-light performance. While the differences may be small during daytime photography, the Pro has superior nighttime capabilities and better video quality.

Verdict

Choose the Xiaomi 14T if:

  • You want a more affordable option.
  • You prefer a lighter, boxier design.
  • You don’t need top-tier performance or the fastest charging.
  • You prioritize better zoom video quality.

Choose the Xiaomi 14T Pro if:

  • You want the best performance, with a chipset that’s far superior.
  • You value ultra-fast charging and wireless charging.
  • You’re after better overall camera performance, especially in low light.
  • You want a more robust build with a slightly longer battery life.

Ultimately, if you’re looking for a more affordable option with solid performance and good cameras, the Xiaomi 14T is a great choice. However, if you’re after flagship performance, blazing-fast charging, and better camera features, the Xiaomi 14T Pro justifies the extra cost.
