Apple’s most affordable iPad is expected to receive a significant update featuring Apple Intelligence capabilities in late 2025, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman.
In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman shared that the iPhone SE will likely gain Apple Intelligence features in March 2025, with the entry-level iPad following later in the year. This timeline suggests Apple is working towards incorporating Apple Intelligence in nearly every device with a screen by 2026.
The current entry-level iPad, which was last refreshed in October 2022, is overdue for an update. The delay may be due to the technical challenges of integrating AI features into a budget-friendly device priced at $349. The 10th-generation iPad currently uses the A14 chip from the iPhone 12, but the next model may feature the A16 chip, or possibly the A17 Pro or A18, to support Apple Intelligence functionality.
Recently, Apple introduced the latest iPad mini with Apple Intelligence support and reduced the price of the existing iPad 10 while discontinuing the inclusion of chargers in Europe. These changes suggest that a new iPad model is still some time away, ruling out an imminent iPad 11 announcement.
While speculation continues about whether Apple will hold a Mac-focused event in October, an entry-level iPad announcement is not expected until late 2025.
