Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy F16 5G, a budget-friendly smartphone that shares nearly identical specifications with the Galaxy M16 5G and Galaxy A16 5G. While the core hardware remains unchanged, Samsung has introduced subtle design differences and a more attractive price point, making the Galaxy F16 5G an appealing option for consumers looking for a reliable 5G smartphone.

With competitive pricing and long-term software support, Samsung aims to position the Galaxy F16 5G as a strong contender in the entry-level 5G market. Let’s take a closer look at the phone’s design, display, performance, camera capabilities, battery life, software support, and pricing to see how it compares to its siblings.

Design and Build: Fresh Colors with Ripple Glow Effect

Although the Galaxy F16 5G is a rebranded Galaxy M16 5G, Samsung has made slight cosmetic changes to differentiate the two. The most notable difference lies in the color options and finish.

The Galaxy F16 5G is available in three unique colors:

  • Vibing Blue
  • Bling Black
  • Glam Green

Samsung has also introduced a Ripple Glow effect, adding a subtle texture to the back panel, giving the device a more premium look. However, aside from this aesthetic variation, the F16 5G retains the same overall design as the M16 5G, featuring a flat back, rounded edges, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button.

Build and Durability

  • Material: Plastic frame and back
  • Fingerprint Sensor: Side-mounted
  • SIM & Expandable Storage: Dual SIM + microSD card support
  • Weight & Dimensions: Similar to the M16 5G (around 200g)

Both the Galaxy F16 5G and M16 5G are identical in size and ergonomics, making them comfortable to hold and use despite their 6.7-inch displays.

Display: Large Super AMOLED Panel with 90Hz Refresh Rate

Samsung has equipped the Galaxy F16 5G with a 6.7-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) Super AMOLED display, identical to the Galaxy M16 5G. The 90Hz refresh rate ensures smoother scrolling and animations, making it a significant improvement over traditional 60Hz displays.

Display Features:

  • Panel Type: Super AMOLED
  • Resolution: FHD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels)
  • Refresh Rate: 90Hz
  • Brightness: ~800 nits (typical)
  • Protection: Gorilla Glass (TBC)

The Super AMOLED technology provides vibrant colors, deep blacks, and excellent contrast, making media consumption enjoyable. While Samsung hasn’t specified the exact brightness levels, the display is expected to offer good outdoor visibility.

Performance: Powered by MediaTek Dimensity 6300

The Galaxy F16 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset, the same SoC found in the Galaxy M16 5G. This 6nm processor delivers efficient performance for everyday tasks, casual gaming, and multitasking.

Key Performance Specifications:

  • Chipset: MediaTek Dimensity 6300 (6nm)
  • CPU: Octa-core (2x Cortex-A76 @ 2.4 GHz + 6x Cortex-A55 @ 2.0 GHz)
  • GPU: Mali-G57 MC2
  • RAM & Storage:
    • 4GB RAM + 128GB Storage
    • 6GB RAM + 128GB Storage
    • 8GB RAM + 128GB Storage
  • Expandable Storage: microSD card support (up to 1TB)

The Dimensity 6300 offers a decent performance boost over the previous-generation budget 5G chips. While it may not match flagship-grade speeds, it handles social media, streaming, browsing, and light gaming without noticeable lag. For those needing extra performance, the 8GB RAM variant is a better choice.

Cameras: 50MP Triple Camera System

The Galaxy F16 5G features a triple-camera setup on the back, consisting of a 50MP primary sensor, a 5MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP macro camera. This is the same camera setup found on the Galaxy M16 5G.

Rear Camera Setup:

Camera TypeResolutionFeatures
Primary50MPf/1.8, PDAF
Ultra-wide5MPf/2.2, 123° FoV
Macro2MPf/2.4

Front Camera:

  • 13MP Selfie Camera (f/2.0 aperture)

Camera Performance

The 50MP main sensor is expected to deliver sharp and well-detailed images in daylight. Samsung’s AI-based scene optimization enhances colors and contrast, making shots look more vibrant. The ultra-wide camera provides a 123° field of view, which is great for landscape photography. However, the 2MP macro sensor is more of a gimmick, as it struggles in low-light conditions.

For selfies, the 13MP front-facing camera captures decent shots with natural skin tones, though it may not be the best in low-light environments.

Battery and Charging: 5,000mAh with 25W Fast Charging

The Galaxy F16 5G is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery, which should easily last one full day of moderate use. Like the M16 5G, it supports 25W fast charging, allowing for quick top-ups.

Battery Life Estimates

Usage ScenarioEstimated Battery Life
Web Browsing16-18 hours
Video Streaming14-16 hours
Gaming6-8 hours
Standby TimeUp to 2 days

While 25W charging is an improvement over older Samsung models, it lags behind competitors like Xiaomi and Realme, which offer 67W+ charging at similar price points.

Software and Updates: One UI 7 with 6 Years of Support

The Galaxy F16 5G runs One UI 7 based on Android 15 out of the box. Samsung has committed to six major Android updates and six years of security patches, making it one of the longest-supported budget smartphones.

Software Highlights

  • OS Version: Android 15 (One UI 7)
  • Update Policy: 6 major Android updates + 6 years of security updates
  • Customization: Themed icons, Always-on Display, Edge Panels
  • Samsung Knox Security: Protects user data with defense-grade security

Compared to most budget smartphones, which only get 2-3 years of updates, the Galaxy F16 5G outshines competitors in terms of software longevity.

Pricing and Availability: More Affordable than the M16 5G

Samsung has priced the Galaxy F16 5G aggressively, making it a more affordable alternative to the Galaxy M16 5G.

Pricing in India

  • 4GB + 128GB – INR 11,499 (~$131)
  • 6GB + 128GB – Expected around INR 12,999 (~$148)
  • 8GB + 128GB – Expected around INR 14,499 (~$166)

The Galaxy F16 5G costs INR 1,000 less than the Galaxy M16 5G for the same RAM and storage variant, making it a better deal.

Availability:

  • Launch Date: March 13, 2025
  • Sales Channels: Samsung India website, Flipkart, and authorized retail stores

Final Verdict: Should You Buy the Galaxy F16 5G?

The Galaxy F16 5G is essentially a rebadged Galaxy M16 5G with a fresh design and lower pricing. If you’re looking for a budget 5G phone with a Super AMOLED display, long battery life, and Samsung’s extended software support, this is a solid choice.

Pros:

✅ Affordable pricing
✅ Long-term software support (6 years)
✅ Large 6.7″ AMOLED display (90Hz)
✅ Decent 50MP camera
✅ Good battery life (5,000mAh)

Cons:

❌ Slower 25W charging compared to rivals
❌ Plastic build
❌ 2MP macro camera is underwhelming

If you don’t need the Ripple Glow design, you can consider the Galaxy M16 5G, but for budget-conscious buyers, the Galaxy F16 5G is the better deal.
