The Nothing CMF Phone 2 Pro arrives as a statement of design and function, proving that budget phones can stand out without compromising on essentials. Positioned as a successor to the CMF Phone 1, this new Pro model ups the ante with a larger AMOLED display, triple rear cameras—including a rare 50MP telephoto—and solid performance via the Dimensity 7300 Pro chipset.

Let’s break down whether this sub-$300 phone is the midrange marvel it promises to be.

Design & Build: Distinct, Durable, and Accessory-Ready

The CMF Phone 2 Pro retains the industrial flair introduced by its predecessor. With visible screws, an accessory attachment point, and a plastic frame that feels solid in hand, it’s unmistakably Nothing. The customizable back with optional magnetic covers and accessories (like lanyards and stands) reinforces the brand’s sustainable and user-first design ethos.

While the phone is IP54-rated (water splash resistant) and has durable Panda Glass up front, it still lacks true waterproofing and premium build materials like aluminum or glass on the back.

Colors available: Black, White, Orange, and Light Green (which shifts to blue under certain light).

Display: Big, Bright, and Smooth

You’re looking at a 6.77-inch AMOLED panel with 10-bit color, HDR10+ support, and a 120Hz refresh rate. Brightness maxes out at a respectable 1,255 nits (auto mode), offering good visibility even under sunlight.

Color tuning modes (Alive and Standard) are decent, and the display adapts between 60Hz and 120Hz—though most apps and games don’t fully utilize high refresh rates beyond 60Hz.

Verdict: One of the best displays at this price point.

Performance & Software: Android 15 with Minimalist Flair

Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro (4nm) chipset, the CMF Phone 2 Pro offers smooth multitasking, decent gaming performance, and efficient power use. It comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB or 256GB storage, expandable via microSD.

Running Nothing OS 3.2 on Android 15, the software is lightweight, bloat-free, and visually distinct thanks to dot-matrix icons and custom monochrome themes. Always-on display finally makes an appearance, although customization is limited.

Nothing promises 3 major Android updates, which is generous in this segment.

Battery Life & Charging

The 5,000mAh battery is a workhorse, delivering over 14 hours of active screen time. It supports 33W wired charging, reaching 46% in 30 minutes and a full charge in 85 minutes.

There’s no wireless charging, and the phone ships without a charger, though a USB-C cable and clear case are included.

Camera Setup: Triple Lens Versatility at a Budget

The CMF Phone 2 Pro features a triple rear camera system:

  • 50MP Main (f/1.9, 1/1.57″)
  • 50MP Telephoto (2x Optical Zoom)
  • 8MP Ultrawide (120° FoV)

Photos from the main and telephoto lenses are punchy with good contrast and vibrant colors, although detail is slightly over-processed. Portraits look natural, with the telephoto surprisingly excelling in subject isolation.

Low-light performance is solid, especially from the main sensor. However, the ultrawide camera disappoints in both detail and night-time shots.

Video recording: 4K@30fps on the main and telephoto cameras, with electronic image stabilization. The selfie shooter (16MP) captures decent 1080p clips and delivers consistent colors.

Speakers & Audio

Only a single bottom-firing speaker is included, which scores average in loudness. Vocals are clear, but bass is practically non-existent. There’s no 3.5mm headphone jack or stereo audio setup.

Connectivity

  • 5G (SA/NSA)
  • Wi-Fi 6
  • Bluetooth 5.3
  • USB-C (2.0)
  • Expandable storage via hybrid SIM/microSD slot
  • NFC (market-dependent)

There’s no eSIM, video output, or FM radio.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Distinctive design with modular accessories
  • Bright 120Hz AMOLED with HDR10+
  • Long battery life and clean software
  • Triple camera setup with dedicated telephoto
  • Expandable storage

Cons:

  • No charger in the box
  • Average speaker performance
  • No OIS (Optical Image Stabilization)
  • Middling low-light ultrawide performance
  • Minimal ingress protection (IP54 only)

Verdict: Worth the Hype?

For its asking price (approx. €249 / ₹20,832 / $290), the Nothing CMF Phone 2 Pro delivers one of the most balanced packages in the midrange segment. Its striking design, reliable performance, bright OLED display, and rare inclusion of a telephoto lens make it a compelling choice for users looking beyond the typical smartphone mold.

If you can live with slower charging and a few cut corners, this is a phone that looks different, works well, and dares to be bold—just like its brand promises.
