Full Review of the Nothing CMF Phone 1

Design & Build Quality

The Nothing CMF Phone 1 has a minimalist yet practical design, in line with the aesthetic choices seen in other Nothing devices. The eco-conscious back panel is either plastic or silicone polymer (eco-leather), and what’s unique is that it’s user-replaceable, encouraging longer device lifecycles. The device weighs in at either 197g or 202g, depending on the variant, making it a bit heftier than some of its competitors but still comfortable to hold.

The phone is dust and splash resistant, though it doesn’t have an official IP rating for submersion. Its 8.2mm thickness gives it a sleek profile, complemented by a large screen-to-body ratio of 85.1%. The three color options—Black, Orange, and Light Green—allow users some room for personalization.

Display

The display is one of the CMF Phone 1’s strong points. It features a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, providing smooth transitions and vibrant colors. Its peak brightness reaches an impressive 2000 nits, which makes it perfectly visible even under direct sunlight. The resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels ensures a sharp and crisp visual experience, with a pixel density of around 395 ppi.

The display also includes an Always-on feature, enabling users to quickly check notifications, time, and other essential information without fully waking the phone.

Performance

Powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 7300, the Nothing CMF Phone 1 is designed to offer reliable performance for day-to-day tasks. This 4nm chipset includes four high-performance Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.5 GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores optimized for energy efficiency. Whether you’re gaming, streaming, or multitasking, the Mali-G615 MC2 GPU ensures smooth graphical performance.

The CMF Phone 1 comes in three variants:

  • 128GB 6GB RAM
  • 128GB 8GB RAM
  • 256GB 8GB RAM

All variants offer microSDXC expansion, allowing users to extend storage for multimedia, apps, or games.

The phone performs well in benchmarks, achieving a respectable score of 536089 (AnTuTu v9) and 646635 (AnTuTu v10). GeekBench scores of 2801 (v5) and 2920 (v6), along with a 3DMark Wild Life score of 3142 (offscreen 1440p), show it’s capable of handling mid-tier gaming and multitasking scenarios.

Camera

The Nothing CMF Phone 1 offers a dual-camera setup on the back, led by a 50MP wide lens with an f/1.8 aperture and Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF), which delivers clear and vibrant photos in well-lit conditions. While the secondary 2MP depth sensor may seem underwhelming, it aids in producing better portrait shots with decent background blur (bokeh).

For video enthusiasts, the phone supports 4K@30fps recording on the main camera, with gyro-EIS for stabilization during handheld shooting. The selfie camera, though just 16MP, does a great job of capturing wide-angle shots and records 1080p video at 30fps.

While the camera is strong in daylight, it struggles slightly in low-light environments, with some noise creeping into the shots. Still, for a phone at this price point, the camera performance is satisfactory, especially for casual photographers.

Battery Life

The CMF Phone 1 is equipped with a 5000mAh battery, providing excellent longevity, particularly for light to moderate users. It boasts an active use score of 16 hours and 13 minutes, meaning it can easily get you through a full day of work or play on a single charge.

Charging speed is adequate with 33W wired charging, which can take the battery from 0 to 100% in about 90 minutes. The device also supports 5W reverse wired charging, which is handy for charging accessories or other phones.

Software & Features

Running on Android 14 with two promised major Android upgrades, the Nothing CMF Phone 1 offers a clean software experience, free of bloatware. It maintains a simple, efficient UI with intuitive controls. While it lacks NFC, other connectivity options include 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and USB Type-C.

The under-display fingerprint sensor is responsive and secure, while the always-on display adds a touch of convenience for quick glances at notifications and the time.

Audio & Connectivity

The Nothing CMF Phone 1 includes a loudspeaker with -28.0 LUFS, providing decent audio quality for calls and media playback, though it lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack. It offers dual SIM support and a comprehensive range of positioning systems including GPS, GALILEO, GLONASS, and BDS, ensuring accurate location services.
