NetEase Games is set to unveil a significant update for Once Human on January 21, 2026, adding exciting new features such as the Fusion mechanic and even more dangerous Deviant Zones. This update will bring a fresh layer of complexity and challenge, as players will now be able to merge with the bodies of defeated Deviants, gaining their abilities and appearance to survive in the more treacherous areas of the game.

Fusion Mechanics: Merging with Deviants for Survival

The new Fusion mechanic allows players to interact more closely with the world of Deviants. By merging with their defeated enemies, players can gain access to unique abilities, creating a symbiotic relationship that will help them explore the newly expanded Deviant Zones. This process involves equipping the head of a slain Deviant, which not only gives players faction-specific abilities but also alters their appearance, allowing them to blend into the environment.

This mechanic opens up new possibilities for gameplay, as players can use the traits of Deviants to adapt to increasingly hostile environments. The integration of these abilities is key to exploring the more dangerous, loot-filled zones that await players.

The Deadlier Deviant Zones: Evolving Challenges Await

As part of the Visional Wheel Season 3 update, Once Human introduces more perilous Deviant Zones. These areas have evolved to become even more lethal, filled with rare loot but also increasingly hostile conditions. The new zones are:

  1. Wild Deviant Zone: Primal and chaotic, this zone features giant creatures and weakened technology. Players will need to rely on melee combat and strategy to survive.
  2. Mirror Deviant Zone: An eerie, illusory landscape where buildings spawn with mirrors. The Deviants use this trickery to hide and attack from unexpected angles.
  3. Phantasmal Deviant Zone: Reality shifts between real and illusion, making it difficult for players to trust their surroundings. Enemies can hide in plain sight, challenging players’ instincts and reflexes.

These new areas provide a more immersive and dangerous environment, forcing players to adapt to survive.

New Deviants Introduce Unique Gameplay Challenges

The Once Human world has grown more dangerous with the introduction of new Deviants, each requiring unique tactics to defeat. Among the new creatures are:

  • The Devourer: A massive beast lurking in mines, attacking players who venture too far into its domain.
  • The Sonivore: An indestructible monster that hunts using sound. Players must lure it away with noise to acquire its loot.
  • The Hoarder Bug: A thieving creature that hoards loot dropped by players, and will pursue anyone who dares steal from it.

These new Deviants will keep players on their toes, requiring careful planning and strategic execution to overcome their challenges.

Enhanced Gameplay Features and Cross-Server Fights

Along with the Fusion mechanics and new Deviant Zones, the update introduces several gameplay enhancements, including the ability to participate in cross-server fights in the “Survive, Capture, Preserve” Deviation Scenario. Players can also share Territory blueprints via codes, enhancing the community-building aspect of Once Human.

The game also receives character class updates and improvements to the RaidZone, expanding the overall gameplay experience and ensuring that Once Human remains a dynamic and engaging experience for all players.
