A new industry leak has confirmed that the upcoming Snapdragon 8s Elite will not feature Oryon cores, contrary to early speculation. The leak sheds more light on the chip’s architecture, revealing that it sits much closer to the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 than the high-end Snapdragon 8 Elite.
First spotted in January powering an iQOO Z10 Turbo Pro, the Snapdragon 8s Elite has now been further detailed through insider sources. The SoC will be built on a 4nm process, similar to the 8s Gen 3, not the 3nm node used in the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite.
The CPU layout for the 8s Elite consists of:
- 1x Cortex-X4 prime core @ 3.21GHz
- 3x Cortex-A720 cores @ 3.01GHz
- 2x Cortex-A720 cores @ 2.8GHz
- 2x Cortex-A520 cores @ 2.02GHz
For graphics, the 8s Elite is equipped with the Adreno 825 GPU, which is a step up from the Adreno 735 found in the 8s Gen 3, but still below the Adreno 830 in the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
Notably missing from the configuration are Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU cores, which are present in the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The 8 Elite features 2x Oryon cores @ 4.32GHz and 6x Oryon cores @ 3.53GHz, making it a true flagship-level processor. In contrast, the 8s Elite continues with ARM’s standard cores, emphasizing its upper-mid-range positioning.
Despite the lack of Oryon cores, performance expectations are still high. The leak hints at an AnTuTu score of around two million points, suggesting strong real-world performance, especially for gaming and multitasking.
In summary, the Snapdragon 8s Elite is shaping up as a powerful mid-to-upper-tier chipset, offering improvements over the 8s Gen 3, but stopping short of true flagship territory. This makes it a solid choice for premium mid-range smartphones rather than cutting-edge flagship devices.
