German sportswear giant Adidas has confirmed a security incident involving customer data. The Adidas data breach occurred through a third-party customer service provider and affected consumers who previously contacted the company’s help desk.
In a statement released on Friday, Adidas said that an unauthorised external party accessed certain consumer data. However, the company reassured customers that no passwords or credit card details were compromised in the breach.
“We immediately took steps to contain the incident and launched a comprehensive investigation, collaborating with leading information security experts,” Adidas said.
What Information Was Compromised?
According to the company, the breached data mainly includes contact details such as names, phone numbers, and email addresses. These details were related to customers who had reached out to Adidas customer support in the past.
Although financial information remains secure, the exposure of contact information still raises concerns about potential phishing or spam attempts targeting affected individuals.
Adidas Responds to the Breach
Adidas acted quickly after detecting the breach. The company launched a full-scale investigation and brought in cybersecurity experts to assist in response efforts.
In addition, Adidas confirmed that they are actively informing potentially affected customers about the incident.
“Adidas is in the process of informing potentially affected consumers,” the company stated.
This breach underscores the growing risks associated with third-party service providers. Even companies with strong internal cybersecurity practices can face vulnerabilities when data is shared externally.
Adidas has not revealed the name of the compromised vendor but emphasized that it has reinforced security measures and is reviewing third-party protocols to prevent similar incidents.
