The Xiaomi 17 launch has marked one of the biggest tech unveilings at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Xiaomi did not arrive with just a flagship phone. Instead, the company introduced a full range of devices, expanding its growing ecosystem of smart gadgets.
Alongside the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra, the company revealed the Xiaomi Watch 5, Redmi Buds 8 Pro, and a new tracking accessory called the Xiaomi Tag. Together, these devices show how Xiaomi continues to compete across multiple tech categories at once.
Xiaomi 17 launch brings a powerful flagship
The Xiaomi 17 launch centers on a refined Android flagship designed to rival top-tier smartphones. The device features a 6.3-inch 120Hz OLED display that delivers sharp visuals and smooth scrolling. It feels compact yet premium, making it comfortable for everyday use.
Under the hood, the phone runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip. It pairs this processor with 12GB of RAM and offers either 256GB or 512GB of storage. Performance feels fast and fluid, whether handling gaming, multitasking, or content creation.
Battery life also stands out. The Xiaomi 17 packs a large 6,330mAh battery. It supports 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, allowing users to power up quickly. This combination makes it ideal for heavy daily use.
Xiaomi has equipped the phone with a Leica-branded triple camera setup. The rear includes three 50-megapixel sensors: a main camera, a telephoto lens, and an ultra-wide lens. On the front, a 50-megapixel selfie camera sits neatly inside a punch-hole cutout. The consistent 50-megapixel theme across all cameras ensures high-resolution results in nearly any shooting scenario.
Design remains a key highlight. The Xiaomi 17 features glass on both the front and back. It comes in Venture Green, Black, Alpine Pink, and Ice Blue. The device feels balanced in hand, unlike some bulkier flagship alternatives. Additional features include an in-display fingerprint sensor, Hi-Res audio support, and IP68 dust and water resistance.
Xiaomi Tag debuts during Xiaomi 17 launch
Another major highlight of the Xiaomi 17 launch is the introduction of Xiaomi Tag. This small tracking device resembles a simple white puck that attaches to keys, bags, or other valuables.
The standout feature is compatibility with Apple’s Find My network. Users can track the Xiaomi Tag through Find My, just like many Apple devices. However, it does not support Apple’s Precision Tracking feature. Even so, cross-platform compatibility makes it a strong alternative in the tracker market.
By entering this space, Xiaomi signals its intention to compete directly in the growing smart tracking category.
Xiaomi Watch 5 adds premium smartwatch power
The Xiaomi 17 launch event also spotlighted the Xiaomi Watch 5. Originally introduced in China, the smartwatch now joins Xiaomi’s global lineup.
The Watch 5 features a round design housed in a stainless steel frame. It runs on Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 and sports a 1.54-inch AMOLED display. Inside, it uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chip paired with a large 930mAh battery.
Compared to earlier models, this smartwatch offers a bigger battery and a refined look. It feels more like a classic dress watch than a sporty fitness band. However, it still supports health tracking features, including EMG and ECG heart rate sensors.
For users who prefer square designs, Xiaomi also continues its Redmi Watch line. Still, the Watch 5 stands as the brand’s more premium smartwatch offering.
Redmi Buds 8 Pro strengthen Xiaomi ecosystem
The Xiaomi 17 launch also reinforces the brand’s audio portfolio with the Redmi Buds 8 Pro. These wireless earbuds support hi-res audio and active noise cancellation.
Battery life reaches up to 36 hours with the charging case. The earbuds also feature advanced noise reduction for clearer calls in loud environments. Xiaomi claims they perform well even in extremely noisy settings or windy conditions.
Additional features include Dolby Audio support, dynamic head tracking, and IP54 dust and water resistance. These additions make the Buds 8 Pro a solid companion for both travel and daily commutes.
A broader Xiaomi strategy
The Xiaomi 17 launch demonstrates more than just a new smartphone release. It highlights Xiaomi’s strategy of building a connected ecosystem. From smartphones and smartwatches to earbuds and tracking devices, the company continues to expand its product range.
By introducing multiple devices at once, Xiaomi strengthens its position across several categories. The Xiaomi 17 stands at the center of this ecosystem, offering premium performance, strong cameras, and long battery life.
As competition intensifies in the global tech market, Xiaomi’s all-in approach may help it win users who want a fully integrated digital experience.
