At MWC Barcelona, Skyworks and MediaTek revealed a new reference design for a 6G FR3 frequency range RF front-end power amplifier (RFFE). The SKYR60002 module supports the 6.425GHz to >7GHz spectrum, which is part of the latest 3GPP 6G standards.
Enhanced 6G Performance
The SKYR60002 integrates a low-noise amplifier (LNA) and power amplifier, featuring built-in filters. This module delivers the linearity, bandwidth, and thermal performance required by 3GPP standards. It provides the high-performance capabilities needed for 6G systems, offering reliable solutions for future communication networks.
Optimized for MediaTek
Skyworks worked closely with MediaTek to optimize the design for their platforms. The SKY58287-11 Ultra High Band (UHB) PC1 RFFE module enhances network range and performance, especially for wireless home internet. Its packaging technology reduces thermal resistance, eliminating the need for a heat sink.
Advancing 6G Systems
As 6G introduces higher frequencies and broader bandwidths, MediaTek’s Evan Su emphasized the importance of chipset-to-RFFE alignment. He noted, “Collaborating with Skyworks on early 6G power amplifier development ensures we deliver superior performance and earlier access to platforms.”
Skyworks’ Joel King also highlighted how the combination of a 6G FR3 power amplifier and high-efficiency UHB PC1 solution showcases how chipset and RFFE integration drives innovation.
Engineering samples of both devices will be available to early access partners, paving the way for next-generation 6G technology.
