YouTube has rolled out several new features aimed at enhancing user experience across its platforms, based on user feedback. Here’s a breakdown of the latest updates:
Fine-Tunable Playback Speed
One of the most requested features is now available: fine-tuning playback speed. You can now adjust the speed in increments of 0.05x (compared to the previous 0.25x intervals), allowing for more precise control. The maximum speed remains capped at 2x, but the flexibility in choosing playback speeds in smaller increments gives users more control over their viewing experience.
Sleep Timer for Everyone
YouTube’s sleep timer, previously available only to Premium users, is now being expanded to all users. This feature lets you set a timer to stop playback after 10, 15, 20, 30, or 45 minutes, one hour, or when the current video ends. It’s a helpful addition for those who fall asleep watching videos or want to limit their screen time before bed.

Enhanced Browsing and Playlists on iOS
For iOS users, landscape mode browsing will see improvements later this year, and the in-app miniplayer has been updated to be resizable and moveable, adding flexibility when multitasking. Additionally, YouTube is introducing collaborative playlists, allowing multiple users to contribute to a playlist. You can also now create custom thumbnails for playlists, either by uploading your own images or using generative AI.
New Features for YouTube TV and Mobile
- YouTube TV will get a more cinematic feel, with subtle visual enhancements such as pops of pink and dynamic touches to enhance the viewing experience. Channel pages will automatically play teaser videos, offering a preview of the content.
- YouTube is also introducing badges to its mobile apps for YouTube and YouTube Music, rewarding users for activities such as being one of the first to subscribe to a channel or correctly completing quizzes.
These updates enhance the overall experience for both casual viewers and creators, offering more flexibility and personalization across devices.
