The mass rollout of Android 15 has officially begun, with Google’s Pixel phones leading the way. The update is available for devices starting from the Pixel 6 series and newer. Google has also shared a blog post highlighting the key features of this latest Android version.
Supported Devices for Android 15:
- Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a
- Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a
- Pixel Tablet
- Pixel Fold
- Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a
- Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold
Key Features of Android 15:
- Private Space: This feature allows users to lock sensitive apps behind an extra layer of authentication. Apps in Private Space will be separated from the rest, not appearing in the app drawer, recent apps, notifications, or settings.
- Optimizations for Tablets and Foldables: Android 15 improves the tablet and foldable experience with the ability to pin the taskbar for quick access to frequently used apps and app pairs. The taskbar can easily be unpinned using the same toggle.
- Theft Detection Lock: This new security feature locks the device and protects personal information if it detects suspicious theft-related motions, like a sudden swipe and run. It’s also available for most devices running Android 10 and up.
- Remote Lock: Allows users to lock their phone remotely via their phone number, even if the Find My Devices feature is turned off.
Alongside Android 15, Google also announced the October Pixel feature drop, which includes:
- Hands-free Google Gemini on Pixel Buds Pro, Pro 2, and Pixel Buds A-series.
- Improved Night Sight, Astrophotography, and underwater photography modes on Pixel 8 and newer phones.
- Audio Magic Eraser to isolate sounds in video recordings.
- Pixel Weather app with a new pollen tracker.
- The thermometer app on the Pixel 8 Pro now supports the camera viewfinder.
