Samsung to Introduce Solid-State Batteries in Galaxy Wearables

Samsung is gearing up to revolutionize its wearable lineup with solid-state batteries, beginning with the Galaxy Ring set to launch in Q4 2025. According to a report from South Korea, this shift promises higher energy density, enhanced safety, and greater design flexibility for the tech giant’s smallest devices.

This development underscores a growing industry trend toward replacing traditional lithium-ion batteries, which use liquid electrolytes, with safer solid electrolyte alternatives.

🔋 Why Solid-State Matters for Wearables

Solid-state batteries offer:

  • ✅ Higher energy density for longer-lasting devices
  • ✅ Reduced fire risk — a key concern given Samsung’s past battery controversies
  • ✅ Freedom to create flexible or irregular shapes, ideal for compact wearables like rings and earbuds

Samsung is expected to first debut this technology in a new Galaxy Ring, which could be either the Ring 2 or Ring 3, depending on the release timeline.

📅 What’s the Rollout Timeline?

Here’s the expected schedule for Samsung’s solid-state battery integration:

  • Q4 2025: Galaxy Ring becomes the first wearable with a solid-state battery
  • Q4 2026: Samsung earbuds adopt the new battery tech
  • Q4 2027: Transition to smartwatches, completing the wearable rollout

Notably, there’s no word yet on smartphones adopting this tech, as solid-state manufacturing remains cost-intensive and technically challenging at larger scales.

💰 A More Expensive Galaxy Ring?

While solid-state batteries bring many benefits, they don’t come cheap. Manufacturing costs remain significantly higher than for standard lithium-ion cells, which may mean the next Galaxy Ring will carry a steeper price tag than its already premium predecessor.

🧠 Final Thought

The shift to solid-state batteries in Samsung wearables signals a major leap in safety, efficiency, and design innovation. With the Galaxy Ring leading the charge, users can expect smarter, longer-lasting, and more reliable wearables in the near future — even if it comes at a higher price.
