Oura Ring 4 Announced: Sleeker Design, Updated Sensors, and Redesigned App

The Oura Ring 4 has officially been announced, bringing several key improvements over the Gen 3 version from three years ago. The new model features a sleeker design and enhanced sensors, along with a redesigned app.

The Oura Ring 4 sports a fully titanium exterior and interior, ditching the epoxy interior of its predecessor. It measures 2.88mm thick and weighs between 3.3 and 5.2 grams depending on the ring size, and is water-resistant up to 100 meters.

The updated sensors inside are much slimmer at just 0.3mm compared to the 1.3mm sensors in the previous generation, without sticking out, but they promise improved accuracy. Oura claims a 120% improvement in blood oxygen (SpO2) measurements and a 30% increase in sleep tracking accuracy over the Gen 3. The heart rate sensor has also been upgraded, offering fewer gaps in heart rate measurements and an improved Breathing Distribution Index (BDI) thanks to higher signal fidelity.

The Ring 4 features an updated algorithm that improves signal pathway access from the finger, providing more precise data at optimal times. It also introduces automatic activity detection with over 40 supported modes, and heart rate monitoring with zone breakdowns. Sleep and stress tracking remain core features, and reproductive health trends have been added.

These automatic activity and stress-tracking features are also coming to the Gen 3 Ring through a software update.

The Oura Ring 4 pairs with Android and iOS devices via Bluetooth Low Energy and comes with a redesigned Oura app featuring a simplified interface and dynamic cards. The new app will also be compatible with the Gen 3 Ring.

Battery life is rated at up to 8 days on a single charge, and it charges via a new charging dock. The Oura Ring 4 is available in Silver, Black, Brushed Silver, Stealth, Gold, and Rose Gold colors, in sizes ranging from 4 to 15.

Pricing starts at $349/€399/£399, with an additional $/€/£5.99 per month (or $/€/£69.99 per year) for the Oura Membership plan. Pre-orders are already open, and deliveries are scheduled to begin on October 15.
